Evaluation of Diaphragms and Membranes as Separators for Alkaline Water Electrolysis

چکیده
The separator is a critical component for the performance of alkaline water electrolysis as it ensures ionic contact between electrodes and prevents product gases from mixing. While conductivity affects cell voltage, permeability dissolved influences gas impurity. Currently, diaphragms are used separators, pore system which filled with electrolyte solution to enable exchange ions. breakthrough phase can be prevented up specific differential pressure. A drawback requirement highly concentrated maintain high conductivity. usage anion-exchange membranes could solve this problem. However, long-term stability such materials remains unproven. This study compares two pre-commercial diaphragms, an membrane, ion-solvating membrane state-of-the-art diaphragm Zirfon TM Perl UTP 500. Besides physical characterization, material samples were evaluated electrochemically determine ohmic resistance impurities. results show that thinner outperforms reference polymer compete material.

For advanced AWEs, which may be based on novel polymer-based membrane concepts, it is of prime importance that development comes along with new configurations and technical and economic key process parameters for AWE that might be of interest ...
متن کاملPolymer Electrolyte Membranes for Water Photo-Electrolysis
Water-fed photo-electrolysis cells equipped with perfluorosulfonic acid (Nafion® 115) and quaternary ammonium-based (Fumatech® FAA3) ion exchange membranes as separator for hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions were investigated. Protonic or anionic ionomer dispersions were deposited on the electrodes to extend the interface with the electrolyte. The photo-anode consisted of a large band-gap ...
متن کاملHydrogen Production by Alkaline Water Electrolysis
Water electrolysis is one of the simplest methods used for hydrogen production. It has the advantage of being able to produce hydrogen using only renewable energy. To expand the use of water electrolysis, it is mandatory to reduce energy consumption, cost, and maintenance of current electrolyzers, and, on the other hand, to increase their efficiency, durability, and safety. In this study, moder...
متن کاملBiofunctionalized nanofibrous membranes as super separators of protein and enzyme from water.
Here, we report development of a novel biofunctionalized nanofibrous membrane which, despite its macroporous structure, is able to separate even trace amounts (as low as 2mg/L) of biomolecules such as protein and enzyme from water with an optimum efficiency of ~90%. Such an extraordinary protein selectivity at this level of pollutant concentration for a nanofibrous membrane has never been repor...
متن کاملsimulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water
abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...
